Nigerian Senate did the unusual yesterday as he passed 46 bills into law in 10 minutes.
Senator Ita Enang, Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business who introduced the bills indicated the bills had been recently passed by the lower chamber; House of Representatives.

The tenure of office of the seventh assembly ends on Friday, May 4, 2015. This informed the decision to pass the bills. The bills have gone through several readings, hence the need to pass them for the President to assent “Bills by this resolution are hereby read and deemed read a third time and passed, to be transmitted to the President for assent in accordance with the Acts (Authentication) Act, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999,’’ Enang said.

Some senators including Senator Domingo Obende, Edo State, and George Sekibo, Rivers State, felt indifferent to the passage of the bill in 10 minutes.

Consequently, a hot debate ensued and the house became rowdy. While effort to restore decorum failed, those who opposed the sudden passage of the bills were asked to write their names and signature
