Fashola, whose tenure will end in less than two days, had earlier asked for the forgiveness of those he might have offended in the course of duty in his 2,900 days in office. He said he was human and could also have made some mistakes.
Fashola became the 13th governor of Lagos state on May 29, 2007, as the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, now part of the All Progressives Congress after a successful merger with Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Fashola was re-elected on April 26, 2011, although many would say his administration marked a historic turning point in Lagos state. Over 110 rural development projects were finished under the rural water and sanitation structure. His government also turned most hide-outs and joints that previously served as bases for impostors and armed robbers into a beautiful environment.
