FG confirms Yakmut as DG

The federal government of Nigeria has announced the confirmation of Mallam AL-Hassan Yakmut as the substantive Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

A statement from the office of the Minister and Chairman of the NSC, Dr. Tammy Danagogo indicates that the letter to that effect which was written on May 12 stated that the confirmation is with immediate effect.
Yakmut was until his appointment on April 15 as the Acting DG, the Director of the Federation of the Elite Athletes Department of the Commission. He took over from Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye who was relieved of his appointment by the federal government.
A former national volleyball players, Yakmut has served in various positions in the NSC as well as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) where he once served as the head of professional league.
Meanwhile, the NSC has set up a Technical Committee on the All African Games, Commonwealth Youth Games as well as the Rio 2016 Olympics.
According to a statement from the office of the Minister of the NSC, Dr. Tammy Danagogo the committee is expected to see to the realization of the quest of the country to excel in the competitions.
The 14 member committee is headed by the newly confirmed DG, Mallam Al-Hassan Yakmut while Olu Akoja, a deputy director in the NSC will serve as the secretary.
