Youths, Women Shut Down Shell Facilities In Bayelsa

Leadership news reports that some youths and women from Nembe communities in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have shut down two flow stations belonging the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC),along the Nembe creek 1 and 2 in Nembe Kingdom of the State.

The two facilities, which are estimated to produce over 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day, were invaded by the agitated youths at about 10am and switched off at about 10.15am.
The protesting Nembe indigenes, armed with palacards with inscriptions such as “sale of our wealth by shell is theft against mankind”,”we are angry , will no longer take it”,”Enough of neglect and inhumanity”,Nembe people reject sale of oil field”,accused SPDC of neglect of deciet and neglect of signed Global Memoradum of Understanding(GMoU).
They alleged that despite the peaceful disposition of the Nembe people to peaceful exploration activities for over 50 years,the company has failed to provide the promised electricity, water and good health facilities.
